Hello, my name is Nikki Rose Hunter-Porter and I am a Registered Nurse with a Master of Nursing Degree in Advanced Practice. I humbly and proudly situate myself as Secwépemc from St’uxwstews, Bonaparte First Nation, located within the southern interior of BC. I currently live within Secwepemcúl'ecw, within the traditional and unceded territory of Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc, colonially known as Kamloops, BC.

Offering leadership and guidance in Indigenous health nursing initiatives across three pivotal domains: 1) Enhancing equitable and cultural safe access to and delivery of health and wellness services with Indigenous communities; 2) Cultivating meaningful and culturally safe community engagement strategies; and 3) Advancement of Indigenous nursing-led research and knowledge translation within Indigenous health and wellness.

Strategic Planning and Policy Development

Facilitate and support Indigenous communities, teams, and organizations in crafting strategic health plans. This process seamlessly integrates the principles of self-determination, sovereignty, and culture. Additionally, offering guidance and support for the strategic development of healthcare policies aligned with Indigenous principles, promoting self-determination and fostering collaboration within the community.

Indigenous Health Education and
Wise-Based Practices

Collaborate, facilitate, and support the development of Indigenous health and wellness education through a distinctions-based Indigenous nursing perspective. Knowledge Translation of wise-based practices to inform education materials, resources, core planning team planning, frameworks, and strategies.

Community-Led Health Initiatives

Facilitate, guide and assist in community-led health programs, prioritizing collaboration between healthcare professionals and Indigenous community. The emphasis is on fostering active participation and joint decision-making processes.
